Over the past few months I have been crazy busy writing content for Level Level, a digital agency based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. They set out to launch a new website. Entered their new site into an international design contest. And became a finalist in the Best Site category. Did I mention they won in the Best Style category? The one specifically looking for Deep User Empathy and Breathtaking content?
To help my family prepare for the move back to The Nederlands in the summer of 2016, I had put my business on hold for almost a year. In the spring of 2017, the dust had settled down and everyone had eased back into a new balance. In the meanwhile, many clients had, understandably, moved on. I had to rebuild my business almost from scratch.
I knew from experience in the US that the WordPress community was friendly, nurturing and welcoming. I sighed up for WordCamp Europe. As an attendee, as a volunteer, and as a first time contributor. Little did I know about the rollercoaster ride this would lead into. The people I met at that one WordCamp encouraged me to become active in the #MakeWordPress Marketing team, to become a speaker, and to become a WordCamp organizer. These volunteer jobs have brought me in touch with many amazing people and opportunities.
Editing and translating a series of blog posts for Level Level, a highly respected Dutch digital agency lead to an amazing assignment: writing the copy for their new website. Then, half way the project, they decided to enter an international design contest….. to become finalist in the Best Site category and to win in the Best Style category. The category that specifically stated to look out for Deep User Empathy and Breathtaking content.
Did this project get me to almost pull my hair out on several occasions? Totally ! Did my inner diva throw hissing fits at me pushing my biggest impostor syndrome buttons? You got it! But I took the opportunity to stretch my comfort zone, and now I can proudly state I am part of a winning team. An award winning team.
